On location Edit - Barcelona

When Co-op travel shipped out 300 of their store managers to Barcelona for the annual sales shindig they hit on the idea of having the whole trip covered by a cameraman with the intention of editing a short programme to be shown at the end of the week just before everybody went home. I was asked to take along a portable editing suite and to provide fast turnaround facilities.

In the end the biggest panic was on the last night as the delegates were partying until 4 am. The last tape was dropped into my deck back at the hotel room at 5 am to be inserted into the end of the prgramme. With the final cut being shown on the big screen in the conference main hall at 8.00 to a surprised and slightly hungover audience minutes before they boarded the plane home.

 

Grosvenor Hotel

As the city's most upmarket hotel; the Chester Grosvenor and Spa wanted a short promo film for international use. As the brief developed it was decided to forgo the usual voice-over format and just let the pictures and music tell the story - this would also save on translation and redubbing.

I was brought in as director for the two day shoot and - naturally - elected to do my own editing as well. There's a great continuity of intention when you know you're going to be responsible for the whole process from camera through to delivery. The result captures the Grand sweep of the historic building as well as the intimate attention to detail lavished on the high-rolling guests.

 

The Good, the Bad and the Ugli Fruit

A staff training project that tips its hat at the well known cheesy John Cleese drama tradition. This time the hapless fall-guy who can't even run a fruit and veg stall is the John Barrie (Red Dwarf/The Brittas Empre) whose comedy of errors finally brings down the organisation whe he lands a punch on the man from D.E.F.R.A.
